The UNILAGFEAA is a creation of the 1972 set (ULEC@69.72) which at its 40th post-leaving school celebration in 2012 held a dinner for themselves and their professors who taught them in school.

As members of that set grew older and retired from active business, the idea was mooted that all the engineers who had passed through the Faculty should come on board and participate in the sustenance of their vision, having sustained a relationship of supporting teaching, learning, and research with the Faculty since 1992.

In 2015, a special ALUMNI PROJECT COMMITTEE headed by Engr (Gen.) Tunde Adebanjo(Rtd) was constituted to develop and implement a roadmap towards establishing the University of Lagos Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association.

The Committee worked in collaboration with the Faculty and Unilag Office of Endowment and produced the first working list of 1000 names of alumni of the Faculty. Those on the list were contacted via email and sms messages to apprise them of the impending establishment of a Faculty Alumni Association.

As part of their tradition, the 1972 set normally paid courtesy visits to newly appointed Vice Chancellors of the University and Deans of Engineering.

It was during a courtesy visit to the new Dean of the Faculty, Prof Funso Falade in 2016 they discovered that he was also desirous of establishing the Faculty Alumni Association and had in fact, set up a Committee on the project. The two Committees worked together to generate a framework for establishing UNILAGFEAA.

The joint Committee worked assiduously to achieve the objectives on target and this eventually led to the inauguration of the University of Lagos Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association on the 16th March, 2017.

Prior to the Inauguration of the new association, there was the bi-annual Faculty of Engineering Distinguished Lecture titled “Charge the Engineer – Unleash the Nation”, delivered by Prof. S. A. Balogun.

A member of the 1972 set, Engr. Charles Aladewolu, Chairman/Managing Director, Teco Group of Companies Nig. Ltd. delivered the inaugural Alumni lecture titled “ALUMNI AS DRIVERS OF INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT” and a subsequent second lecture titled ALUMNI ASSOCIATION: A VERITABLE TOOL FOR NETWORKING AND PROMOTION OF PROFESSIONALISM” was delivered by Engr Dideolu Falobi.

The first Executive Committee of the association was elected at the association’s first annual general meeting on March 16, 2017.
