March 24, 2021 By feaaadmin In Uncategorized As part of a congratulatory visit to the new dean of the faculty of engineering, university of Lagos, the present executive of the alumni association of the faculty, led by the chairman, Engr. Dideolu Falobi paid a courtesy call to the new dean of the faculty, Professor Obanishola Sadiq on Friday, March 19, 2021. Other members of the Alumni Association in attendance were Engr(Mrs.) Oluremi Ajayi, Engr. Taiwo Lawal and Dr. Lawrence Osoba who is also the Sub-Dean of the Faculty. In his speech, the dean gave the executive a warm welcome and appreciated the entire faculty alumnus for their various support and contributions towards the improvement of the faculty for an enhanced learning environment. He specifically appreciated the donation of the geoinformatics laboratory by the present governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwoolu to the surveying and geoinformatics department of the faculty. He also acknowledged the promise of the endowment of two professorial chairs by Governors Babajide Sanwoolu and Seyi Makinde of Lagos and Ogun Stares respectively. He appealed to the Alumni Association to do their best to ensure the prompt realization of the endowment. The dean further informed the alumni of the proposition by the committee of deans of engineering and technology of Nigerian universities (CODET) to be rewarding graduating engineering and technology students in the area of best graduating student of the year, best graduating students’ project of the year and best publication of the year from members of staff. He solicited for a representative from the alumni who is not a staff of the faculty to be part of the screening committee for the various rewards program. Seeking more support and contributions from the alumni, the dean informed the alumni of the need for the donated webinar room to be equipped with internet connectivity so as to assist the faculty in the area of online lecture provision for the students. He also mentioned the need for a project bus in conveying the faculty staffs to various functions. Other requests made by the dean include the extension of the faculty car park, provision of a study centre for the students in the faculty’s quadrangle and vertical extension of some of the blocks of classrooms. In his remarks, the chairman of the alumni association, Engr Dideolu Falobi congratulated and welcomed the new dean. He expressed his appreciation on behalf of all the members and executive to the dean for creating time out of his tight schedule for the visitation and hosting. He re-emphasized the commitment of the alumni association in assisting the faculty to maintain its leading role in the institution. At the dean’s request, the chairman first appreciated members of 1985 set for their acceptance to fund the vertical extension of the dean’s office. He pledged that projects such as equipping the webinar room with internet connectivity, lateral extension of the faculty car park and provision of a project bus will be given immediate response whilst a project committee comprising of the various eminent alumnus of the faculty will be set up to respond to the bigger projects such as multi-level student study centre, multi-level car park and the vertical extension of the classrooms and offices. He reaffirmed that the Alumni Association appreciates, and will reach out to Governors Sanwoolu and Makinde in respect of the endowment of the professorial chairs. Professor Obanisola Sadiq, a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, was elected as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the prestigious University of Lagos in January 2021.
