On August 5, 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), announced a bold step toward transforming research in Nigeria. A total of ₦4.25 billion has been approved to fund 158 research projects across public universities. In addition, 18 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hubs will be established nationwide, one in each of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

This move signals a renewed commitment to bridging the gap between academic research and real-world solutions. The hubs will be equipped with 3D printing labs, robotics centers, coding facilities, and maker spaces, creating the environment for research ideas to evolve into prototypes, startups, and industrial applications.
