Honouring a Legacy of Excellence: UNILAGFEAA Celebrates Professor Obanishola Mufutau Sadiq

As the University of Lagos prepares to bid farewell to one of its most illustrious academic leaders, the UNILAG Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association (UNILAGFEAA) proudly joins in celebrating the exceptional career and legacy of Professor Obanishola Mufutau Sadiq, who retires from active government service in June 2025.

Professor Sadiq, born on June 3, 1955, is a renowned Structural Engineer whose academic and professional journey reflects a life dedicated to excellence, innovation, and mentorship. After earning his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (1985) and Ph.D. in Structural Engineering (1990) from the Kiev Institute of Civil Engineering in Ukraine, he began his academic career at Ahmadu Bello University in 1991 and joined the University of Lagos in 1995. He attained the rank of Professor by 2001 and went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2021–2024).

Throughout his tenure, Professor Sadiq made remarkable contributions to research in structural dynamics, nonlinear analysis, vibration behavior, and reinforced concrete design. His scholarly output includes over 30 influential publications and pioneering studies on structures such as masts, towers, and cooling shells, with practical relevance for telecommunications and critical infrastructure.

Beyond academia, Professor Sadiq is deeply admired for his enduring commitment to the UNILAGFEAA community. His leadership fostered productive collaborations between the faculty and alumni, especially in infrastructure development and alumni-sponsored initiatives. At key events like the 5th Alumni Public Lecture and the commissioning of new lecturer offices, he consistently highlighted the transformative role of alumni support

A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers (FNIStructE) and the Academy of Engineers (FAEng ), Professor Sadiq’s contributions have elevated the standard of engineering education and practice in Nigeria.

As he enters a well-earned retirement, the UNILAGFEAA family extends heartfelt appreciation and best wishes. His dedication, wisdom, and leadership have left an indelible mark on the Faculty of Engineering and the broader UNILAG community.
