(Chief) Oye Eribake, the Chairman and other members of the Executive Council, UNILAGFEAA as well as all Alumni, Current Staff and Students of the Faculty celebrate the giant strides of our distinguished Alumni, His excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on the delivery of the Lagos Red Line Rail System, commissioned on the 29th February, 2024. His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu both commissioned the Lagos Red Line on the 29th February, 2024. Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the LRMT Red Rail Line stretches over a distance of 27 kilometers and entails 13 stations integrating major bus terminals at Oyingbo, Yaba, Oshodi, Ikeja, Ebute Metta, Iju, and Iddo. The Red line was designed to have a direct link to the international and domestic wings of the Murtala Muhammed Airport to accommodate passengers for air travel. The Lagos Red Rail Line Mass transit system has the potential to transport an average of 1 million passengers daily when fully operational, the Governor disclosed. The Red Line project is a substantial investment in Lagos’ urban transportation infrastructure, under the Greater Lagos Urban Transportation Project, managed by the (LAMATA). The initial estimate of the project is pegged at $135 million.
